According to a foreign media thelec report, Samsung Electronics originally planned to introduce UV LED applications into 20-30% of its new home appliances next year, but Samsung Electronics will cut plans to use UV LEDs in new home appliances next year. The application range of Samsung Electronics' introduction of UV LEDs in home appliances will be determined based on the market's response to new products.

According to industry reports on the 23rd, Samsung Electronics is currently conducting UV LED application tests on a set of new home appliances including refrigerators to be released next year. The UVC LED test project currently underway by Samsung Electronics includes five products: refrigerators (with water purifiers), air purifiers, air conditioners, washing machines, and medical purifiers (clothes manager). Samsung Electronics plans to test the sterilization and deodorization effects of five models with UVC LEDs.

The plan has changed? Samsung Electronics' UVLED import plan may be adjusted

Compared to Samsung Electronics’ original plan to introduce UV LED applications in its new home appliance lineup in September next year, the proportion of UV LED applications is as high as 20-30%, and the adjusted introduction proportion has decreased. However, the UV LED that was originally only used for custom-made refrigerators and clothes purifiers will be extended to other household appliances.

Compared to LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics is more passive in using UVC LEDs. According to reports, from the perspective of Samsung Electronics, the sterilization effect and market response of UV LEDs seem to be unpredictable, so Samsung Electronics' actions tend to be conservative.

In addition to UVC LED solutions, Samsung Electronics is expected to consider UV lamp solutions. This is a preparation for the UVC LED radiation range that does not meet Samsung Electronics' expectations.

It was previously reported that as the epidemic has lasted for a long time, consumers' awareness of sterilization has gradually increased. The application of UVC LEDs in home appliances and automobiles is also increasing. LED manufacturers continue to expand their UV LED production capacity. Samsung Electronics will expand the application of UVC LEDs in home appliances next year.

UV LED does not use mercury, which is more environmentally friendly than mercury lamps. UV LED is divided into UVA LED (315-380nm), UVB LED (280-315nm) and UVC LED (250-280nm) according to wavelength. UVA LEDs are mainly used in production lines such as exposure or curing of printed circuit boards (PCBs), and UVB LEDs are mainly used in the field of biomedicine. UVC LED is mainly used for disinfection and sterilization.
